It was never Ira Croft’s intention to be sixty one and single, yet here he is. Life has been good to him, but sometimes a nagging ache creeps into his heart when he least expects it. Has he missed the best part of why man was created? Emma Prater is forty six and unmarried. She is also the sole caregiver for her brother Rodney, a young man with Down syndrome. She sees herself as plain and quit thinking of marriage long ago – what man would want the package deal she has to offer? But Rodney knows a good man when he sees one and he knows more about what his sister has sacrificed than she realizes. When Ira places a personals ad at the urging of a friend, Emma reads it aloud to her brother. Rodney knows intuitively that this is the man for Emma, but how can he get these two lonely hearts together?

I am enjoying this lovely story set in a rural community. The characters are likeable and appealing. I am especially interested with Rodney, the 28 year old young man who has Down's Syndrome. He is a pivotal character. The author must have some experience with adults with DS, since the character is authentic from my experience as a parent. Recommended.

I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet and poignant tale of two farmers looking for love at an older age. And Rodney, the young man with Down syndrome, was created with so much insight and care that I could virtually see him and feel his struggles, his kindness, his joy.

Jean Rosenow has created a rural world I wanted to live in, even though I have no desire to raise cattle or pigs or make jam for the county fair. I wanted to meet these people. I wanted to tell Emma she was beautiful and a good sister. I wanted to pal around with Rodney and play with his puppies.

If you want to escape to a wonderfully realized world with some kind-hearted folks for a while, you couldn't travel to a better destination.
