Being a new parent is nerve-jangling enough as it is, but what happens if your baby is not what you were expecting? How do you deal with the conflicting feelings, a heart assailed by overwhelming love and overwhelming fear, guilt and anxiety as your expectations are rerouted?
This happened to Caroline White. So she pulled together her contrary emotions - the good, the bad and the ugly — and spun them into a poignant and uplifting fable, an inspiration for all new parents who find themselves stumbling along an unfamiliar and unanticipated path. Written with great honesty and love, The Label is anchored by a simple yet powerful central image, a metaphor for all that is limiting and prescriptive, and explores what happens when you let the label go and watch as your child blossoms into their best life untroubled by negative expectations.

An honest and positive book. I would love to see this book given out to parents in hospital when they are told their child has a disability. It's so much more positive than the information that is currently in circulation.
As a mum of a child with Down's Syndrome I could totally relate to the emotions Caroline describes. I really wish this book had been around when my son was born.
Beautifully written book for everyone to read not just those parents of a child with a disability - it would also help relatives and friends of a family going through this experience as well because it is totally written from the heart. As a mother of a child with a disability it perfectly encapsulates the range of emotions that can (not always) present at the birth and the following months sometimes years. Caroline's not frightened to admit her immediate concerns following her baby's birth birth and this honesty will help other parents who are or were perhaps feeling a bit guilty about how they themselves felt when their baby was born. The book doesn't actually mention the specific type of "label" so could help families either with a pre diagnosed or unexpected condition. Brilliant illustrations as well!
